The Many Benefits of Automatic Labeling For Automated Parcel Sorting Systems

Automatic print and apply labelling applicator systems add an extra level of efficiency to your automated parcel sorting production. The system works by first scanning the package to determine the location where the label should be applied. The sorting system then aligns one of the print and apply label applicators to the appropriate position and applies the label with precision.

ID Parcel & Mail Solutions recently incorporated automatic labeling into a new Packet Parcel Sorting System (PPSS) for a customer who required relabeling for final mile delivery. In this case the barcode scanning and dimensioning system determines the location of the current label and provides the coordinates to the PPSS. The PPSS then aligns one of the print and apply label applicators to the appropriate position so as to apply the new label on top of the existing label.

Here are some some of key benefits of using automatic labeling:

Reduced Labor Costs

When labeling or over-labeling is required, fewer operators are needed when labeling is automated, leading to much lower labor costs and lower operating costs. Manual labeling may make sense for certain applications and package types and the ID Parcel & Mail Solution’ PPSS supports both solutions.

Speed

Though the PPSS Manual labeling workstation and conveyors design reduce the opportunity for an operator to label the wrong package, anytime a human is involved an unexpected result can occur. The automatic labeling design further reduces the chance for the label to be placed on the wrong package by tightly controlling the application process and ensuring that the package under the label applicator is arriving at the expected time window so it can not be a different package. With automatic labeling the label will always be placed in the exact position required.

Automatic Labeling For Automated Parcel Sorting Systems

With the appropriate design, ID Parcel & Mail Solutions can deliver a PPSS that will achieve a customer’s desired speed with automatic labeling. Two automatic labelers can support 2800 packages per hour, and if a higher speed is required, more automatic labelers can be incorporated into the system design.

Reduced Errors & Better Label Placement
