The USPS has filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission to make classification changes that will help simplify their product offerings. USPS Retail Ground and Parcel Select Ground will be incorporated into the First Class Package Service (FCPS).

Also, in response to continued inflation, and to continue their long-term plan to maintain financial stability, the USPS increased rates 6% on July 11. USPS has stated that the new rates are still below inflation which is hovering at 8.6%. In their quest to be “self-sufficient” the organization has made it clear that additional rate increases are likely.

Amidst these rate increases, and the variety of factors that affect shipping costs, automation is playing an even more critical role in helping organizations achieve cost savings. For example, ID Parcel & Mail Solutions builds small sorters that can sort packages per carrier for organization’s that are changing carriers per customer order based on rates for each package. This is just one way that automation can help reduce costs.
